Mountain Stage for Young Driver

ADAC GT Masters at the Red Bull Ring in Austria

08.08.2012 - GT3

Green meadows and snow-capped mountain peaks: In front of a scenic Alps-panorama, Young Driver AMR will start this weekend with the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in Austria into the second half of the ADAC GT Masters season. While the Red Bull Ring in Styria is a new territory for Young Driver AMR, Kristian Poulsen and Christoffer Nygaard, the Austrian duo Ferdinand and Johannes Stuck already know how sweet champagne smells after a home Grand-Prix win: At the inaugural ADAC GT Masters-race at the Red Bull Ring in 2011, the Stuck brothers claimed a victory.

“We are very excited about what to expected at the Red Bull Ring,” says Young Driver team principal Hardy Fischer. “The track is new to our team. Therefore, we can’t make any predictions and are eagerly awaiting the first free practice session. After we didn’t scored the results we were hoped for at the last, rain soaked round at the Nürburgring, we aim for a good result at the Red Bull Ring."

Johannes Stuck hopes to repeat the successful weekend he had last year on the former Österreichring along with his brother Ferdinand. “Winning last year was very emotional. After some bad luck in the previous races, we now have the chance for a successful start in the second half of the season. We aim for a Top-10 finish in both races. The Red Bull Ring is a great track and very characteristic: fast straights followed by very heavy braking points. I expect at the Red Bull Ring the closest and most exciting races of the season so far.“

For the Danish duo Kristian Poulsen and Christoffer Nygaard, the Red Bull Ring is new territory. “I know the track only from TV and I am very excited,” said Christoffer Nygaard. “Since also Kristian doesn’t know the track, we have to drive very much in the practise sessions. But I’m afraid it will not be an easy weekend. Our Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 is especially strong in third and fourth gear corners. But there are not many at the Red Bull Ring, so it will be interesting to see where we will stand.

Before the start of the second half of the ADAC GT Masters season, Poulsen/Nygaard are sixth in the drivers championship, Young Driver AMR is also sixth in the team standings. In the amateur standings, Poulsen is second, only four points behind the amateur championship leader.
